High Levels Of Wireless Radiation At Arundel High School
14 February 2019 | By Brian Dobbs | Patch
Long-term exposure is now being linked to cancer, ADHD, and DNA damage.
Gambrills, MD – The students and staff at Arundel High School are being exposed to high levels of wireless radiation every school day. Wireless radiation was once thought to be harmless, but decades of research by scientists all over the world provides increasing evidence that shows otherwise.
What Is Wireless Radiation?
Most people know that long-term exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun and x-ray radiation can cause cancer. UV and X-Rays are so powerful that they literally destroy our atomic structure by stripping away electrons, thus ionizing our atoms.
However, most people don’t know that less powerful radiation is being shown to be harmful to our health. ‘Wireless radiation’ is a common way to reference to what is scientifically known as non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation, and it is comprised of radiowave and microwave frequencies.
A new term used to describe how wireless radiation is polluting our environment is called “ElectroSmog.”
Sources Of Wireless Radiation
Most of the wireless radiation found at Arundel High School comes from four different sources.
- Cell Tower And Antennas – Arguably, most of the radiation found directly outside Arundel High School comes from the surrounding cell towers. Images obtained using AntennaSearch.com.
Some of these towers have multiple antennas. There are also non-tower antenna sites surrounding the school.
Zooming out, we can see all the antenna sites within a 4 mile radius. - Wifi Network – Like most other public schools, Arundel High School has Wifi broadcast throughout the school.
- Dirty Electricity – Arundel High School also measures high in a phenomenon known as Dirty Electricity, where radio frequencies emanate from power lines.
- Cell Phones And Tablets – Any student or staff with a cell phone or tablet is also a source of considerable radiation.
Why Students, Parents and Staff Should Care
The students and staff at Arundel High School are at considerable risk of developing one of many health-related issues. Due to their rapidly-developing bodies, children are especially sensitive to environmental toxins such as heavy metals and pesticides.
Wireless radiation should be thought of the same way – a toxin. It stresses the body and weakens the immune system. It also penetrates deeper into children’s brains due to their thinner skulls.
Research has linked long-term Wireless radiation exposure to…
- Cancer
- Attention Deficit Disorder
- Memory Loss and ‘Brain Fog’
- Fatigue
- Insomnia
- Ringing in the Ears
- DNA and Cell Damage
- Opening of the Blood-Brain Barrier
- Lowered Immunity
- Disruption of Communication Between Cells
Health effects from wireless radiation are cumulative, and there is no safe exposure level.
In fact, many people around the world currently suffer from symptoms associated with what is known as electrohypersensitivity.
From WeAreTheEvidence.org
Although the public has been assured that wireless technology is safe and that there is no evidence that wireless technology is harmful, the truth is different. The harm of wireless technology radiation is not potential but existing at an epidemic scale.
There are many thousands of peer-reviewed scientific research papers proving that the radiation emitted by wireless technology is harmful to almost every system and organ in the body – including DNA – even at levels millions of times less than the current “safety” standards.
However, the most compelling evidence of harm is the rapidly growing numbers of adults and children who are developing severe adverse health effects from this technology. We now have human evidence that confirms what science has been warning us about for decades: the adults and children who have been injured are the undeniable proof that wireless technology is harmful.
It is believed that a high number of teachers and students developed some form of cancer due to prolonged exposure to Dirty Electricity at La Quinta Middle School in California. News clip below. Study here.
This paper, published by the American Journal Of Men’s Health, offers the following conclusion regarding student’s health when exposed to cell phone tower radiation.
“…it is identified that high exposure to RF-EMF produced by Mobile Phone Base Station Towers is associated with a decrease in fine and gross motor skills and spatial working memory and attention in school adolescents compared to students who had been exposed to low RF-EMF. This study provides cognizance to society and stakeholders in health care about the health hazards of RF-EMF produced from MPBSTs. No one can deny the facilities that are being provided by the telecommunication industry, but it is believed that nothing should be compromised over health. MPBSTs must be installed away from thickly populated residential zones particularly in or near the school buildings or there must be some system to shield human beings from RF-EMFR.”
This paper, published by Environmental Research, concludes that human exposure to Wifi causes “oxidative stress, sperm/testicular damage, neuropsychiatric effects including EEG changes, apoptosis, cellular DNA damage, endocrine changes, and calcium overload.”
This paper, published by Electromagnetic Biology And Medicine, concludes that long-term exposure to wireless radiation may lead to depression, stress, anxiety and poor sleep quality.
How Strong Is The Wireless Radiation At Arundel High?
The meter in the photographs below measures the combined power density, or strength, of all detectable wireless radiation falling within the range of 200 megahertz – 8 gigahertz.
The indicator light, signaling “High,” suggests a power density range between 100 – 1,000 microwatts per meter squared. (A more sophisticated meter could detect an exact measurement.)
The measurements are worse inside.
The indicator light, signaling “Extreme,” suggests a power density range between 1,000 – 10,000 microwatts per meter squared.
Radiation from cell phones themselves exceeds 10,000 microwatts per meter squared when measuring with the same meter at point blank range. The author assumes most students and staff own cell phones and/or tablets and carry them on their person.
*The author’s cell phone was in “Airplane Mode” when the photographs were taken.
Since there is no safe exposure level for wireless radiation, a measurement of less than 1 microwatt per meter squared is ideal.
The meter in the photographs below measures a Dirty Electricity level of 870 millivolts.
This is nearly 35x higher than the manufacturer’s recommended safe level of 25 millivolts.
What Causes Dirty Electricity?
North American power lines supply electricity in the form of alternating current (AC) at the rate of 60 oscillations per second (hertz). For the purposes of this article, pure 60 Hz AC electricity can be considered ‘clean.’
Analog electronics are able to use this AC power ‘as-is’, thus preserving the integrity of the 60 Hz AC electricity. Examples of analog electronics are…
- Incandescent Light Bulb
- CRT Television
- Tape Recorder
- Rotary Telephone
Digital electronics, however, require direct current (DC) to operate and therefore must convert AC to DC using what’s known as a rectifier. An AC adapter (a.k.a. as wall warts or power bricks) is the best known example of a rectifier.
Digital electronics use electricity intermittently, turning the electricity ‘on’ and ‘off’ thousands of times per second, otherwise known as switched-mode power supply (SMPS).
The AC to DC conversion process combined with the inherent nature of SMPS interrupt the natural flow of the 60 Hz AC electricity by creating voltage spikes and high frequency voltage transients.
These spikes and transients are commonly referred to as Dirty Electricity.
60 hertz falls in the ‘Extremely Low Frequency’ range of the electromagnetic spectrum. Dirty Electricity refers to all of the other frequencies that ‘piggy-back’ on top the clean 60 Hz AC fundamental frequency, most of which fall into the radiowave part of the electromagnetic spectrum.
Here is a simple demonstration of how radio frequencies contaminate our electrical power lines.
Which Institutions Acknowledge This Health Concern?
International Agency For Research On Cancer – Part of the World Health Organization, the IARC has officially classified wireless radiation as a class 2b possible carcinogen. There is an increasing amount of researchers who are suggesting that the WHO/IARC classification is outdated and should be upgraded to a Group 1 known carcinogen. This paper, published in September 2018 by the journal Environmental Research, offers the same conclusion.
National Toxicology Program – Part of the U.S. Department Of Health And Human Services, the NTP concluded that there is “clear evidence” linking wireless radiation exposure to tumor growth in the hearts of male rats.
American Academy Of Pediatrics – After reviewing the NTP study, the AAP responded with, “In light of the findings, the Academy continues to reinforce its recommendation that parents should limit use of cell phones by children and teens.”
American Cancer Society – After reviewing the NTP study, Otis W. Brawley, M.D., Chief Medical Officer for the ACS responded with, “The NTP report linking radiofrequency radiation (RFR) to two types of cancer marks a paradigm shift in our understanding of radiation and cancer risk. The findings are unexpected; we wouldn’t reasonably expect non-ionizing radiation to cause these tumors. This is a striking example of why serious study is so important in evaluating cancer risk. It’s interesting to note that early studies on the link between lung cancer and smoking had similar resistance, since theoretical arguments at the time suggested that there could not be a link.”
Children’s Environmental Health And Protection Advisory Council – After reviewing the NTP study, the Governor-appointed Maryland State CEHPAC released an official recommendation that students’ exposure to radio frequencies should be minimized in public schools, citing children’s unique vulnerability to its effects.
BioInitiative Report – In 2012, a team of 29 authors (comprised mostly of PhDs and MDs from ten different countries) reviewed close to 1800 international studies on electromagnetic radiation and published what is known as The BioInitiative Report. The BioInitiative Report concludes that even low-intensity exposure damages DNA, interferes with DNA repair, is toxic to the human genome, causes sleep disturbances, kills sperm, contributes to ADHD, and is linked to alzheimer’s and cancer development. Click here to see a chart that summarizes the various biological effects of low-intensity wireless radiation exposure.
International Association Of Firefighters – In 2004, the IAFF officially opposed cell tower construction at fire stations after there were reports of firefighters getting sick after cell towers were installed next to fire stations.
Operative Plasterers’ and Cement Masons’ International Association– In 2015, the OPCMIA wrote the following in a letter to the FCC. “Our Founders could not have envisioned many of the health and safety hazards our members face today, one of these deadly hazards is radio frequency. In the course of their work many of our members have the potential to come into contact with RF radiation without ever knowing it, until it is too late. RF antennas are often intentionally disguised as building features making it impossible for a construction worker to know the hazard even exists. Current regulations do not adequately protect construction workers and others who may work near RF radiation sources.”
North America’s Building Trades Unions – In 2015, the NABTU wrote the following in a letter to the FCC. “We continue to be concerned about the thousands of construction workers who are put at risk daily of being exposed to harmful levels of radio frequency (RF) radiation generated by wireless antenna systems across the country. ”
Mechanical Contractors Association Of America – In 2015, the MCAA wrote the following in a letter to the FCC. “The association is concerned that mechanical service technicians may at times be unwittingly overexposed to radiofrequency (RF) radiation because their employers are rarely informed about the presence of and the potential hazards associated with telecommunications antennas.”
Other Professionals – There is a growing body of scientists, doctors, researchers and engineers who conclude that long-term wireless radiation exposure causes cancer and other adverse health effects.
What About The Federal Communications Commission?
The FCC does not have standards with regards to exposure to wireless radiation. While they do have guidelines, even those are long overdue for an update as they were established in 1996.
Janet Holbrook, resident of Herald Harbor, Maryland wrote the following in opposition to a proposed cell tower installation in her community.
As long as a tower complies with FCC safety standards, set in 1996, no health concerns are relevant.
Regardless of FCC inaction, accumulating data link radiofrequency radiation to a specific type of brain cancer and children are especially vulnerable to adverse health effects. There were sufficient data in 2016 for the Maryland Children’s Environmental Health and Protection Advisory Council to make recommendations to reduce children’s RF exposure at schools.
Why then are cell towers located at schools? Zoning laws allow it and the recommendations don’t directly address cell towers.
The most important recommendation the council made was to urge Maryland leaders to ask the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to petition the FCC to revisit exposure limits “to ensure it is protective of children’s health and that it relies on current science.”
But none of this matters because the FCC says it doesn’t and FirstNet may outweigh local concerns. Local officials are not allowed to take potential health effects emerging post-1996 into account when making decisions — this is tyranny.
Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal asked the FCC in December 2018 to provide recent scientific studies demonstrating the safety of 5G cellular communications. As you will hear him say in the video below that they “have failed to do so.”
Critics of the FCC argue that they are captured by the wireless industry. Listen to the FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler and reach your own conclusion.
How Can Arundel High School Fix The Radiation Problem?
Ideally, the school should hire an Electromagnetic Radiation Specialist or Building Biologist to come in and take readings first, and then offer solutions to the radiation problem.
There are a handful of companies that sell filters for Dirty Electricity, ranging from plug-in style to hardwired at the circuit panel.
Here is a video of a well-renowned EMF specialist Eric Windheim, demonstrating different filtering techniques.
What Can Parents Do?
There is a unique opportunity to educate and protect students from unnecessary exposure to wireless radiation.
Maryland legislators passed a law in 2018 that requires…
…the State Department of Education, in consultation with the Maryland Department of Health, by June 1, 2019, to develop health and safety best practices for the use of digital devices in school classrooms; and requiring the Department, by July 1, 2019, to provide the best practices to each county board and nonpublic school for consideration and adoption.
If you are concerned about the health risks associated with exposure to wireless radiation, please e-mail Arundel High School Principal Gina Davenport.
*Most importantly, please send an e-mail to the following people:
Robert. R. Neall
Maryland Secretary Of Health

E-mail as follows:
Dear Secretary Neall and Superintendent Salmon,
I have a some questions regarding Maryland House Bill 1110, and the Education Department’s responsibility to develop health and safety best practices for the use of digital devices in school classrooms.
- Will the medical recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics and Vienna Medical Association on radiation and health be included in the Best Practices guidelines?
- Will CEHPAC’s recommendation to reduce children’s exposure to wireless radiation be included?
- Will you also include solutions for mitigating Dirty Electricity (a unique form of wireless radiation) in public schools?
- Will you highlight manufacturer’s fine-print warnings to hold digital devices away from the body and brain?
- Will you recommend wiring schools for both phone and Ethernet to allow for landlines and wired Internet connections?
If the answer to any of these questions is “No,” then please explain why not.

Thank you for your time.
Initial ideas for HB1110 centered around screen time for children. What people need to understand is that the problem extends way beyond ‘screen time.’
Consider offering testimony to the Anne Arundel County Public Schools Board Of Education like these fine folks from Shady Side and neighboring communities.
Still Skeptical Of Health Effects?
For those who are not yet convinced, perhaps this is where one might consider the precautionary principle. After all, it’s hard to dismiss what exposure to wireless radiation does to our blood cells.
Have a look for yourself.
What you’ll see in the following videos is something called Rouleaux, which is a general marker for disease.
Here is a list of schools removing Wifi worldwide.
Here’s a trailer for a new documentary called Generation Zapped on the health concerns of wireless radiation.
Author’s Personal Note
Scientific research shows wireless radiation could be a big problem. Mitigating its effects may disrupt a fundamental way of modern life. It needs to be taken seriously, just like lead in the drinking water at our schools.
Parents owe their children a safe environment in which to live and learn. They must take bold steps to drastically reduce their children’s exposure to wireless radiation, even if it’s not ‘fashionable’ to do so.
Consider purchasing wireless radiation meters and take measurements for yourself.
